I have always been
interested in video games and I consider them to be the reason I decided to
become a 3D artist. To me the world of gaming is an awesome and inspiring place, a vastly
unexplored medium offering people experiences that I believe no other form of
entertainment can rival. My dream has always been to create my own games, to
entice the player into a unique world of my own design and move them on an
emotional and artistic level.
Whilst I believe I have a strong underpinning in
traditional 3D modelling principles, I lack knowledge of real time graphics.
Optimizing graphics for game engines whilst still retaining a high level of
visual quality is something I am particularly interested in. So far I have
learnt some surface transfer techniques in which I have been able to project a
detailed high-poly model onto a low-poly counterpart through a technique called
normal mapping. Currently I am trying to find a balance between keeping the
model at a reasonable amount of poly’s without losing too much of the models
detail.
